One of the number one things I get asked as an Interior Designer is, how do I freshen up my room quickly and cheaply? Whether you have company coming over or you want to change things up just for you, throw blankets and throw pillows are a great way to accomplish this. I have about 10 different pillows in my saved cart on Amazon Prime right now and about 5 more in my Target cart. My husband thinks I have an
obsession problem. I think he is right.
With the holidays around the corner(seriously, where did this year go??!!) sprucing up your home can be simple and cost effective. Also when I am looking to add to my home decor, I always tell clients to not just think of the now, but to think ahead to the next season. Choosing pieces that have longevity through the seasons and trends, is the key to not over spending on design and keeping your home not jam packed with seasonal decor(who else is guilty of this!). I just love how easily you can spruce up your space, even change it completely, with just a few throw pillows.
I mostly have these pillows, minus the orange ones that I pack and unpack with my fall decor, on my couches all year round. I love that the colors are bright but neutral and can stay around from spring through fall.
How many of you are drooling over the new Hearth & Hand by Joanna Gaines at Target?! Joanna you have done it again. I love the quality, style, and price point for the whole collection. My sister and I bought these cute pajamas for the kids for when they go over for Christmas at Papa and GiGi’s. So cute!!
I also couldn’t resist (although I actually resisted A LOT on everything else) on a couple of new pillows and an AMAZING smelling candle! Like seriously AMAZING smelling! I can’t stop sniffing it! Plus when it is all done, you can transform it into a planter! I am in love.
Anyway, I chose this pillow because I thought I could carry it from fall, past Christmas, and through winter. The simplicity of it allows it to be like a neutral in my color pallet. It also has a little of gold thread woven through it, which you can’t tell online, that adds a hint of bling. I will probably try and keep the kids and dog away from it to keep it cleaner longer, but over all I am really happy with it.
I always like to have a game plan on design for my house for when Christmas decor comes down. I like to still be cozy and wintery, but I don’t want it to look like I still have Christmas decorations up at the end of January early February. So I came up with this wintery white, black, and light blue pallet. I love that it can transition smoothly by me only taking away a few pillows.
I don’t know about you all but I am always in an inner battle with myself over how to decorate my home after Halloween but before/during Thanksgiving especially when we are hosting Thanksgiving. I am always conflicted whether to put my pumpkins away and bring out the garland and pinecones or just stay with fall, until Black Friday.
So I compromise and bring out the plaid and pinecones to mesh with the pumpkins. Seems to work for me.After Thanksgiving, however, Christmas is up 100% in our house. I plan to throw in the red plaid, Santas, burlap, and all things green to bring our home into Christmas land. My Christmas style is rustic cabin mostly, but I will probably bring in a little more farm house with my new cotton wreath and newly shiplapped living room( post to follow about that gloriousness).
Oh how I love my life with littles. I am never alone lol. Are any of your boys obsessed with Cars 3 as much as mine?! It is on repeat in our house lol
I love to mix plaid during Christmas time. It makes everything more cozier. You can’t have too much plaid in my book. I have had this blue Ikea plaid blanket for a few seasons now and I love the colors. It is one of my decor staples all year long. Sadly they don’t sell it anymore, but I do always look for something similar in color to replace it(it’s not very comfy). I will probably make some throw pillows out of it eventually( I know, I have a throw pillow problem).
I have included some links to some of my favorite throw pillows and blankets right now.
